Stephen Curry and Blake Griffin will square off on Saturday night when the Golden State Warriors meet the Pistons in Detroit. The two stars are connected through history dating back to their days in college. Both Curry and Griffin were amongst the winners for various end-of-season awards, so they spent some time together.

“That Final Four weekend, in terms of his sense of humor and how down to earth he was, it’s pretty easy to connect with a guy like that,” Stephen Curry said to James L. Edwards III of The Athletic. “I wouldn’t say we’ve hung out a lot since (the Final Four), but understanding who he is as a person and understanding his skill level, it’s been fun holding it down for the draft class of ’09.”

The respect between Curry and Griffin is mutual. Both players came out of the 2009 draft, and both players have followed somewhat similar career arcs. Griffin arrived as a star before his counterpart in Golden State, but Steph quickly rose to a level that Griffin had never reached.

Regardless, both are megastars in today's NBA. Although they don't spend much time together, they speak glowingly of one another.

“There’s not a friendship where you’re hanging out all of the time, but I would hope there’s a mutual respect. I have a lot of respect for him,” Griffin said.

The “rivalry” between Stephen Curry and Blake Griffin has been almost 10 years in the making. Every battle between the two is always must-watch television.
