San Francisco, CA – On Monday night, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry entered the game 19 points away from passing Wilt Chamberlain to become the franchise's all-time scoring leader. The night started quickly for Curry as he scored six points in the game's first two minutes.

Curry fired shots rapidly throughout the first quarter, determined to become the franchise's all-time leading scorer. After his fourth made three-pointer, you can see the two-time MVP noticeably start to smile. He knew then he would overstep the NBA legend and Hall of Famer sooner than expected.

“I knew once I got close to there, I was kind of zoned in on just trying to get good looks and get it out the way if you will,” Stephen Curry told ClutchPoints.

With focus and excitement both growing, Curry was two points away from surpassing Chamberlain and was on his way to doing so in just one quarter. On a well-defended drive to the basket, Curry flipped in a layup over former teammate and seven-footer Javale Mcgee.

That was the bucket that gave him the Warriors record. A quick flex of the muscle and kiss to the sky was all he had time for at that moment before running back on defense.

“The last layup, I knew exactly what the moment was, so it's pretty special,” said the Warriors star.

Passing Chamberlain in any statistical record is cause for celebration. Wilt Chamberlain is a guy who holds numerous NBA records. One of his most famous records is scoring 100 points in a single game. Curry placing his name above Chamberlain's gave today's generation something special to see.

“I understand the game has changed a lot. I understand I've had a huge part in that, but it's not for me to come up here and try to articulate that,” Stephen Curry continued. “It's just playing basketball and enjoying what I get to do every day, and that's why I think good things keep happening because I try to embrace what's next, and who I get to go hoop with every day and the challenges of each season.”

A sizzling Curry didn't slow down after breaking the legend's franchise record, and it started to look as if he would make a run at dethroning teammate Klay Thompson's single-game three-point record (14). He didn't quite make it but still managed to put together a thrilling performance, knocking down ten three-pointers and scoring 53 points on his historic night. Curry understands what he accomplished on Monday night, but he's already looking ahead.

“You know, God willing, I have plenty of time to go year by year and understand what my career was like but not anytime soon,” said Curry.

The Golden State Warriors held off the Denver Nuggets, 116-107, in a competitive matchup to improve their record to 26-28. With all the struggles this season with injuries and inconsistent play, Warriors fans needed a special moment, and boy did Stephen Curry deliver.
