After another season that ended in disappointment for the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry made sure to provide a little light waiting at the end of the rather dark tunnel: Klay Thompson.

In his post-game press conference following their play-in defeat to the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry opened up about the return of Thompson next season. He shared how important Thompson was during their dominant years as champions and emphasized that no matter what his condition is, the sharpshooter and fellow Splash Brother is certain to make an impact on the team.

“He’s a huge part of our championship DNA and what we’re about. I know he’s going to do everything in his power to get back to 100% knowing what he’s been through the last two years. Whatever version of him comes back is definitely a boost,” Curry said of his injured Warriors teammate, per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype.

While the Warriors failed to make the 2021 playoffs, fans and experts alike believe they would have easily made it to the postseason had Klay Thompson been around. Stephen Curry proved that he is still at the peak of his prime, and the presence of Thompson would have only made the Dubs more lethal.

Sure, Curry might not have won the scoring title with Klay in the picture. He may not even be in the MVP conversation. Nonetheless, one thing is certain: the Dubs would have been a dangerous team and considered a legitimate contender with Thompson in the fold.

Unfortunately, Klay suffered two consecutive season-ending injuries in the past two years that forced him to sit. He tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals, and when he was about to return this 2020-21 after missing the whole 2019-20 campaign, he sustained an Achilles injury during the past offseason.

Hopefully, as Curry said, Klay will be able to return healthy for the 2021-22 campaign. The Warriors are simply different with Klay, and they need him to win again.
