The Golden State Warriors took a blowout loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. And for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, they are now having a taste of reality in the NBA.
The Warriors are having a tough stretch this season, losing in three of their last seven games. In their Christmas Day showdown, Golden State was favored to win against the Angeles. However, the Lakers wanted it more, as they ran away with a 127-101 victory over the defending champions.
With the loss, the Warriors are now 23-12 heading into their last two games this year. It is easily their worst record in 35 games in the last four seasons. Kerr said that they should expect tougher times ahead of them this season.
The three-time NBA champion coach said that their 73-win season in 2015-16 is just an exception to the rule. He added that what they are facing right now is some sort of a reality check.
“This is the rule. This is how seasons go,” Kerr said, per Bruce Jenkins of the San Francisco Chronicle. “You don’t win 73 games. It just doesn’t happen.”
The Warriors are not getting the usual productions from some of their stars. Klay Thompson is struggling to find his rhythm, shooting just 33.7 percent from beyond the arc. Draymond Green is also in a slump, as he is hitting just 23.9 percent of his attempts from the three-point region.
Against the Lakers, Thompson had just five points on 2-for-7 shooting in 33 minutes. On the other hand, Green ended up with just four points on 2-for-7 shooting, including going 0-for-3 from beyond the arc. As a team, the Warriors shot just 9-for-36 from rainbow country against the Lakers.
