With the Golden State Warriors suffering a blowout loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers in their opening preseason contest, one of the bright spots of the evening was the efficient performance of new Dubs recruit Marquese Chriss.

The 6-foot-10 power forward logged just 14 minutes off the Warriors bench, but was able to put up eight points (on 4-of-6 shooting), six rebounds, and four assists in what turned out to be quite a well-rounded game for Chriss.

Following his team's disappointing 123-101 loss, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr talked about Chriss' roster status for the Dubs. The three-time NBA champion coach admitted that at this point, he cannot guarantee Chriss' spot in the roster for the 2019-20 campaign due to a number of complications.

“It's impossible to figure out what's what with our injury situation and our cap situation,” he said, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “A lot of minutiae in the CBA and I'm not sure how it plays out.”

Chriss ended the previous campaign as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he would play just 27 games following a mid-season trade from the Houston Rockets. He entered free agency in the summer, and decided to sign for Golden State on a one-year minimum deal.

Nonetheless, due to a number of reasons including the ones cited above, a recent report suggested that Chriss might not be able to make the final roster cut for the upcoming campaign. Coach Kerr was non-committal in his statement above, but perhaps a few more impressive performances in the offseason from Chriss might just make his coach think twice about his current predicament.
