Everybody has their bad games. As a role player, Steve Kerr certainly had his fair share. While speaking at The Ringer podcast, the Golden State Warriors head coach admitted he found a very creative way to get out of his funk: by being Jeff Hornacek for practice.

“I always tried to pick guys in the NBA who I could emulate. I wasn't going to try to be Michael Jordan. I can't be Michael Jordan. But I always loved guys who I thought ‘Okay, I could be that guy' so I thought I really like Jeff Hornacek. Jeff was kinda my size but way better player than I was. All-Star, great shooter, but he just had more flair. He had more stuff to his game, he had more imagination. It was like nothing got in his way, and I was always getting in my way. So I go out and go ‘I'm gonna be Jeff Hornacek for practice today'.”

Kerr shared about how his teammates praised him for turning in a great practice by going into the mindset of being Jeff Hornacek for the day. He hilariously admitted how pathetic he felt afterwards for having to act like someone else just to bring out the best in him.

Kerr and Hornacek had pretty similar skill sets. However, as the 3-time champion coach mentioned, Hornacek was much more skilled than he and became an All-Star in his prime. Nonetheless, like Hornacek, Kerr was also a deadly sniper from beyond the arc. His title-clinching over Hornacek's Utah Jazz became the defining moment of his career.

Steve Kerr turned in a pretty solid career as a role player. He finished his playing career with five NBA championships and added three more as coach of the Warriors. He also currently holds the record for the best 3-point percentage in NBA history.
