Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is confident D'Angelo Russell will be able to play with and without the ball this season.

Russell will start alongside two-time MVP Stephen Curry in the Warriors' backcourt.

The Warriors acquired D’Angelo Russell from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the sign-and-trade deal involving Kevin Durant. Last season with the Nets, Russell made his first All-Star team and established himself as one of the best young scorers in the game.

Golden State is definitely excited to see what Curry and Russell can do together in the backcourt while All-Star Klay Thompson rehabs his ACL injury.

Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists last season while shooting 43.4 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line. Neither Russell nor Curry are good defenders, but both guards can light it up on offense.

Once Thompson returns to the lineup, the Warriors will have three guys who can score 20-plus points in their sleep from all areas of the court.

The Dubs are embracing the underdog mentality this season. In a rugged Western Conference, some believe the Warriors might struggle to make the playoffs since Durant is gone and Thompson is injured.

Expect Curry, Russell and Draymond Green to be extra motivated to prove the naysayers wrong.
