For Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, beating the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game playoff series is the only thing he thinks about.
As for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr? He takes a much different approach, according to an article published by Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.
“I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about them,” Kerr said. “I think about what I’m going to have for breakfast. I also think about lunch, what we’re going to do at practice and what movie my wife and I are going to watch that night.”
Kerr knows that the Warriors have a huge target on their backs, as the thought of being on the minds of other teams gives them that much more motivation going forward.
“There’s plenty of time to think about the Rockets, the Spurs, Cleveland, everybody else who’s challenging us. But it’s a good position to be in, knowing people are thinking about us,” Kerr said.
From what the Rockets have done this season, including a recent 14-game winning streak that was finally snapped by the Los Angeles Lakers, Kerr can't help but be impressed with Houston's progress.
“They’ve been great,” Kerr said. “I thought they made some really good offseason additions. They’re better defensively, and obviously, Chris Paul gives them a different dimension. They’ve been destroying everybody, so they’ve got a hell of a team.”
The Warriors and Rockets will next square off at Toyota Center on Jan. 4 when Golden State travels to Houston for a primetime matchup.
