Prior to Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr greeted the media wearing a “Vote For Our Lives” shirt.
Kerr explained that he felt the need to send a message in the wake of the Virginia Beach shooting that occurred on Friday, and he encouraged young people to get out and vote for leaders that would foster change, especially with respect to gun control.
Kerr: “The shirt is a reminder that the only way we can get out of this mess is to actually vote, and to vote for people who are going to be willing to create some change in our gun laws in our country.”

Kerr has not been afraid to voice his political opinion since he took over the Warriors, and he has been particularly more active in that arena since President Trump was elected in 2016.
The Warriors did not make the customary trip the White House last year and have already stated that they will not attend in the future.
In this case, however, Kerr is not targeting the president himself. Rather, he seems to be advocating for more focus and legislation with respect to the gun control issue, an agenda that continues to be one of the most divisive in American politics.
Even on the verge of falling into a 0-2 hole, Kerr has always seemed to understand that there are things bigger than basketball — and the platform they have should be used for the improvement of the community.
