Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr isn't afraid to share his political opinions. With the November elections fast approaching, he’s taking an extra step to ensure that people from a place close to him will have a chance to vote.

On National Voter Registration Day, Kerr will join volunteers in Tucson, Arizona and begin a virtual phone bank to help the effort to increase voter turnout in the area, according to Matt Berman of BuzzFeed News. With Arizona’s voter registration deadline set on Oct. 5, the 54-year-old coach will help encourage people to check their registration status as well as those of their friends and family and make a plan to vote early for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and other Democrats on the ballot.

Kerr has several ties to Arizona, as he played for the University of Arizona in college for four seasons, helping the Wildcats reach the Final Four in the 1988 NCAA Tournament. After college, Kerr was also drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the 1988 NBA Draft and spent his rookie season there before heading to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a trade.

At the end of his 15-year stint as a player, Steve Kerr began the next chapter in his career as an executive for the Suns, including as the team's president and general manager. He was with the Suns for six years from 2004-2010. He joined the Warriors as head coach in the summer of 2014, and has won three titles in six seasons with Golden State.
