Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr admitted to reporters on Wednesday the Doc Rivers news really hit him deeply.

On Monday, the Clippers announced that Rivers wouldn't be returning as head coach. While the team called it a mutual decision, multiple reports have stated Rivers was surprised by the Clippers' decision.

Kerr, who has been a strong advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement, says the NBA is going to miss Rivers' leadership in terms of social justice issues.

“The Doc Rivers news hit me,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said about Doc Rivers no longer being the Clippers' head coach, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

“His voice is so crucial. With the current social movement, his words have been so powerful, his leadership so strong and important. I just want to thank Doc. Hopefully he'll be back coaching, but I just want to thank him on his leadership”

Rivers could be back in the NBA fairly soon. He's already been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans, and reportedly met with the Sixers.

Kerr and the Warriors weren't invited to the Walt Disney World bubble for the NBA restart since the team had the worst record in the league before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March after Utah Jazz All-Star center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19.

As a result of their putrid season, the Warriors have the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft.

With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins leading the way as a foursome next season, the Warriors should be back in the playoffs in the rugged Western Conference. Dubs fans are eager to see if the team can win another title despite Kevin Durant no longer being on the squad. KD, of course, is now on the Brooklyn Nets.
