D'Angelo Russell seemed comfortable with the Golden State Warriors' system right from the get-go, and Steve Kerr thinks it's all thanks to Luke Walton.

Per Mark Medina of USA Today, Kerr shared that he and Walton run similar practice drills and offensive plays. As such, it made Russell feel at ease on his first day of training camp with the Warriors.

“It's really helpful for D'Angelo to have played for Luke because a lot of the stuff that we do in practice is very similar,” Kerr explained. “He said it felt like second nature to him to go through what we did today.”

To recall, Walton spent two years with Golden State as assistant coach under Kerr. In fact, in the Dubs' 73-win season, Walton won more games than Kerr, 43-39, as the latter was out due to a back problem.

After his stint with the Warriors, Walton took over as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. He worked with a young and talented Purple and Gold squad which included Russell.

His main task was to develop the young core — a task many believed he succeeded in. Who knew that a few years down the line that the system he employed would be vital for his former player?
