The Golden State Warriors will head into Game 3 knowing there won't be an easy task to win on the road at the Smoothie King Center. Steve Kerr has even more pointed expectations as the tilt approaches.
“Yeah, we’re going to get some fouls called on us early, for sure,” Kerr said, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “You gotta be ready for that.”
The expectation is coming off Alvin Gentry's post-game comments, where he compared the foul shots his team was awarded to the Warriors.
New Orleans only shot 7-of-9 from the stripe as a team, while the Warriors; a much more perimeter-oriented team shot 22-of-27, tripling the amount of attempts at the foul line.
“I don’t think I shot that many jumpers tonight,” Anthony Davis said after the game. “I don’t think Jrue (Holiday) shot that many. Both attacking the basket.”
“Forty-eight,” Rajon Rondo interrupted. “Both of those guys shot the ball, combined, 48 times. I think we were attacking just as they were — a couple (calls), a lot, however you want to put it, didn’t go our way.”
Now in their home building, the Pelicans are bound to keep that aggressiveness and hope the calls go their way this time around, in bad need of a win after falling to an 0-2 hole after Tuesday's game.
In return, the Warriors will hope to avoid some of these calls, now that the officials have been made aware, by just following the basics and keeping their hands to themselves.
“Just not reaching,” said Draymond Green, who was Davis’ primary defender. “You know, so many times he’s driving to the paint and guys are reaching, he gets free throws. I think we’ve done a good job of not reaching and just trying to chest up and make him score over the top of us.”
