The NBA schedule release always elicits criticism from players and coaches, but Steve Kerr is actually praising the league after the announcement. The Golden State Warriors coach spoke with Bob Fitzgerald on KNBR 680 about the schedule release.

Kerr believes that the NBA is finally listening to the players and coaches about reducing the back-to-backs teams must play and working on incorporating more days off for teams to rest. This will keep more star players on the floor.

Kerr also mentioned the amount of travel his teams have had in the past and he's thrilled that the league is cutting down on their overall miles traveled.

“I like that too. Remember two years ago, we were No. 1 in the league in terms of miles traveled? I believe this schedule has us right in the middle at like 15th, which, given that we're in the Western Conference, I mean, I would guess that all the Western Conference teams are in the Top 15 just on basic geometry. So I think the league has done a really good job of listening to teams doing things like you just said, playing a couple games in a city and staying there instead of playing hopscotch all over the place.”

The NBA wants teams to avoid resting their best players at different points in the season. By reducing travel and increasing the number of off days, they will likely see less of this practice.

The Warriors open up the season on Oct. 16 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
