Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr expressed his admiration for San Antonio Spurs bench boss Gregg Popovich, who continues to speak out and fight racism and racial injustice in the U.S.

Pop recently spoke to Dave Zirin of The Nation and sounded off on the current situation unfolding throughout the country.

“The thing that strikes me is that we all see this police violence and racism, and we’ve seen it all before, but nothing changes,”the Spurs coach said. “That’s why these protests have been so explosive. But without leadership and an understanding of what the problem is, there will never be change. And white Americans have avoided reckoning with this problem forever, because it’s been our privilege to be able to avoid it. That also has to change.”

Obviously, Kerr saw Pop's remarks and offered high praise for his fellow NBA coach for being the leader in standing for justice and equality. The Warriors' champion coach also noted how Popovich has inspired the other figures in the league to speak out and fight for what they believe in.

“This is why he is Pop,” Steve Kerr tweeted on Monday in response to Gregg Popovich's recent remarks. “As he once told me- ‘life is short- you either stand for something or you don’t.’ He has always firmly stood for justice and equality, and given the rest of us the courage to do so too.”

With both the coronavirus pandemic and the recent protests breaking out across the United States, the NBA has been one of the more outspoken entities in all of sports — if not the most outspoken.
