The 2022 NBA Finals are ramping up. The Golden State Warriors lead the series 3-2 over the Boston Celtics. And, they have a chance to end the postseason tournament with a Game 6 win.

With the huge game just days away, Steve Kerr joined 95.7 The Game for his weekly appearance. He joined the station's “Damon & Ratto” on Tuesday and discussed the love triangle between the Warriors, Gregg Popovich, and the Celtics.

He said that Pop texted both teams to clarify his impartiality before the series began.

“Pop texted all of us before the series started and said, ‘I am now neutral. I’ll be rooting for everybody.’” Kerr said, all quotes courtesy of 95.7 The Game. “I know he’s gonna be thrilled for whoever wins and despondent for whoever loses. That’s genuine Pop, for sure.”

Kerr played for Pop's San Antonio Spurs team from 1998 to 2003, winning two titles in the five-year span.

Popovich and Kerr have undeniable close ties to one another. However, the Warriors coach is aware of the significant relationships that Pop has with his Finals rivals.

“(Udoka) was not on the front of the bench, but he was part of the staff and Tokyo. So was Will Hardy, his No. 1 assistant here in Boston. Another Pop guy,” he said. Celtics head coach Ime Udoka worked under Popovich from 2012 to 2019. Will Hardy spent ten seasons working with Pop until eventually becoming Udoka's assistant coach in Boston.
