Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr says center DeMarcus Cousins is not close to playing in a game, but is making progress in his rehab from a torn left quad.

Cousins suffered the injury in Game 2 of the first round against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Warriors are up 1-0 on the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Finals. Golden State will look to take a 2-0 series lead on Thursday.

Assuming the Warriors get to the NBA Finals for the fifth consecutive season, there appears to be a chance Cousins could make a return to the lineup. The All-Star big man recently said he expects to play again this postseason.

Cousins appeared in 30 games during the regular season for the Warriors after missing the first 45 games recovering from the Achilles tear he suffered last season. Boogie averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 48.0 percent from the floor, 27.4 percent from beyond the arc and 73.6 percent from the free-throw line.

It would be great to see Cousins play in the NBA Finals. It was sad to witness him get hurt in his second career playoff game. The Warriors are hoping Cousins returns since they need a low post presence to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks or Toronto Raptors in the Finals.

The status of Kevin Durant is still up in the air, so the Dubs getting Cousins back would be a huge lift.
