Golden State Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins may still have a chance to make a comeback in the 2019 playoffs after suffering a torn quad injury in their opening-round series against the LA Clippers.

Head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters Sunday after Game 3 against the Houston Rockets and said there is a possibility the All-Star big man could return at some point during the postseason. He clarified, however, that this is just a matter of normal progression from the injury:

DeMarcus Cousins was originally expected to miss the rest of the postseason when the injury first occurred. Despite the devastation of the injury, Cousins did not need surgery to repair the torn quad.

It was obviously a tough break for Cousins, as he was eager to make an impact for the defending champions in his long-awaited playoff debut. Unfortunately, Cousins couldn't catch a break and fell awkwardly on a non-contact play in Game 2 against the Clips.

Nevertheless, the Warriors would certainly welcome Cousins' potential return to the floor. The Warriors are lacking depth right now, and an All-Star-caliber player like Cousins would definitely be a huge boost for them.

They are currently rolling with the Hamptons Five in their second-round series against the Rockets. While this lineup seems to be their best unit together, Cousins still gives them a different dynamic they can use at some points during the game.

If Cousins does return, it won't be for this series. The conference finals would also be a long shot, but perhaps he'll be able to return if Golden State makes it to the NBA Finals.

However, the Warriors will still have to get past arguably their biggest hurdle to a third straight NBA championship in the Rockets. The defending champions currently hold a 2-1 series lead over their conference rival.
