The Golden State Warriors swung a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins and draft picks just ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, sending D'Angelo Russell and a couple of other players to the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes in return.

The move came across as a bit puzzling to some, given how poorly the first five-plus years of Wiggins' professional career have gone. But after the deal, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke out on what Wiggins' role will be in his new surroundings:

“Draymond (Green) will definitely be in his ear, in a positive way and in a motivational way as well,” Kerr said on KNBR (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area's Drew Shiller). “Minnesota needed him to be a star. And we’re not asking him to be a star. We’re asking him to play a role on a team that already has some star players.”

Wiggins' work ethic was always a question in Minnesota, which is surely why Kerr made sure to mention that Green will be taking him under his wing, so to speak.

Kerr also makes a good point about how Wiggins will be playing alongside several other star players in the Bay, as the Warriors (when healthy) are loaded with talent that the Timberwolves never really had outside of Karl-Anthony Towns.

Of course, Wiggins may struggle early on in Golden State, as the Dubs are without Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, but it's entirely possible that all he needed was a change of scenery.

After all, Wiggins is just 24 years old and has ample room to grow.
