There has been a lot of chatter over the last few months about how the NCAA and NBA can co-create a system that works for the best of both leagues. Some believe the one-and-done rule should be abolished altogether, and some believe that players in the NCAA should be paid, and there are a lot of questions to be answered before a system can be created that is best for everyone.

On Monday Steve Kerr talked to ESPN about the changes he thinks should be made, and how everything that is done should be in the best interest of the kids.

“Don't keep this ruse going, we all know what's going on. Let's do what's best for the kid and give them some options, and work together between the NBA and NCAA to find the right system. I think it's entirely doable if you people just open their eyes.”

Under the current college basketball system, players who leave early and sign with an agent, or stay in the draft process past a certain date can't return to college basketball, and Kerr thinks that is just wrong.

“One of the things the NCAA needs to look at is, if a kid signs with an agent and he doesn't get drafted, welcome him back,” Kerr said. “Why not? What's the harm? We talk about amateurism and all this stuff, but if you're truly trying to do what's right for the kid, and the kid declares for the draft and doesn't get drafted, you know what? Welcome him back. Do something good for the kids.”

This could make for a lot better system for the NBA. More players could declare for the draft and go through the entire process. If they aren't drafted, they could return for their next season in college, and just have that much more experience about how the NBA process works, and what they really need to work on.
