Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr likes to joke just about as much as anyone.

But he's probably not laughing after a joke he made on Wednesday night.

Before the matchup against the Clippers, Kerr told those broadcasting the game that he thought Lou Williams might go for 50 points because Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were not playing in the game. The comment was in jest, probably accompanied by his famous wry smile.

After the first 24 minutes, it didn't seem like Kerr would eat his words by the end of the game. Williams had only 13 points, and Kevin Durant had already scored 25. The Warriors looked primed for another of their now-famous third-quarter volcanic eruptions.

But as the second half of the game wore on, Williams starting making shot after shot after shot. He led the Clippers to a 19-point victory and even out-shot Kevin Durant by the time things were all said and done.

Even when the game was already in hand and in the final seconds, Kerr still was safe from his pregame words. Williams had 47 points and looked like he might just dribble out the 24-second shot clock and take a turnover.

But instead, Williams pulled up from around 35 feet and let one last shot fly. Splash. Fifty points.

After the shot went in, the camera panned to Kerr and his reaction was priceless, per ESPN.

There's no way Kerr or anyone else could really predict that Williams was going to drop 50 points on that particular night. But this whole thing just goes to show that you can't temp the basketball gods.
