NBA legend Steve Nash believes Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets simply because he wanted a change.

Nash, who has been a consultant for the Warriors since 2015, chimed in on Durant's decision to leave The Bay for Brooklyn. Critics tagged the move as Durant's wish to have his ‘own' team. After all, Durant signed up with a Golden State squad with a tight core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

Although Durant is an elite player himself — capable of leading his own team — people never saw him as the leader of the Warriors. While Nash admits that this wish for his ‘own' team played a role in Durant's decision, he thinks the major reason was that the 10-time All-Star simply wanted a new challenge.

Per the Bill Simmons Podcast:

“I think that plays a role [in him leaving], but I don't think it's everything for Kevin,” Nash said, as transcribed by Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area. “I think it's probably overplayed by the media. I think in some ways, Kevin just wanted a change. … I think him constantly seeking a new challenge and new opportunity and new experience, there's a lot of layers to him.

“I think he loves to explore.”

Durant is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season due to the Achilles injury he sustained during the 2019 NBA Finals, so people have to wait before seeing KD take over Brooklyn.

As Nash said, however, KD will certainly be ready for the challenge when his time to return comes.
