Eric Paschall’s breakout performance for the Golden State Warriors caught a lot of people by surprise. Tracy McGrady, however, claimed that he already saw it coming.

The NBA Hall of Famer recently appeared in an episode of ESPN’s The Jump, where he shared that he already saw something special with the Warriors’ late second round pick prior to his 34-point explosion against the Portland Trailblazers on Monday.

“Before this kid had 34 or whatever he had last night, I told my brother, I was wataching Golden State play: ‘I said I like that Paschall kid. He was just showing me flashes. I told him I like this kid a lot’. Last night watching on a plane, I knew I seen something. He just needed the opportunity.

“I texted Bob (Myers) right away, ‘I say I really like this kid’.” He basically tells me, he’s not afraid. When you get a rookie like this. He’s big, he’s physical, he plays strong and he’s not afraid to take mid-range jumpers. I think he has a bright future,” he added.

The 23-year-old Paschall has been a saving grace for Steve Kerr’s line-up that has been decimated by injuries.

The Warriors only won two of their first seven games of the season, but the Villanova product’s steady performance has been a pleasant surprise for the team. Paschall is averaging 16.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 29 minutes per game.

He is also tied with fellow sensational rookies RJ Barett, Kendrick Nunn, and Jo Morant for most 20+ point performances (3) among first year players.
