The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets are tied up 2-2 in the teams’ Western Conference semifinal. Each team has won each of their games at home so far in the series with a critical Game 5 taking place in Oakland on Wednesday night. Ahead of that game, Marcus Thompson of The Athletic was interviewed in the New York Post regarding his new book about Kevin Durant. The book is fittingly titled KD: Kevin Durant’s Relentless Pursuit to Be The Greatest, and in it, Thompson details Durant’s years as a member of the Warriors.

It also features a tidbit about how the outcome of this year’s playoff run for the Warriors will affect Durant’s decision in free agency this offseason. According to the New York Post interview.

“We still don’t know how the season will end,’’ Thompson said in the piece. “That’s the data that will affect the end result. We still have information we have to input into any algorithm.”

Thompson also references the Durant scuffle between himself and Draymond Green that occurred earlier in the season, and has potentially lingered over the team all year, though “Thompson said he’s surprised how smoothly the team emerged from the Draymond Green-Durant spat in November,” according to the Post article.

It stands to reason that how this postseason plays out for Durant and the Warriors will alter the future of the NBA, especially if Golden State falters against the Rockets or at any point before winning the Finals.
