The Golden State Warriors have the second pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft. But according to a recent report, they are prioritizing their first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft from the Minnesota Timberwolves—an asset they got from the Andrew Wiggins-D'Angelo Russell trade.

According to a report by Brian Witt of NBC Sports, the 2021 class is filled with more promising young talent compared to the upcoming 2020 rookies. After all, the likes of Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green are expected to join the list of prospects.

As such, the Warriors are putting more value to their 2021 pick from the Wolves compared to their own lottery pick in this November's draft.

“In addition to possessing their own 2021 first-round pick, they also have the Minnesota Timberwolves' top-three protected 2021 first-rounder acquired as part of the Andrew Wiggins-D'Angelo Russell trade.

If the Timberwolves' pick lands outside of the first three selections in the 2021 draft, it will convey to Golden State. If by chance Minnesota's pick does land in the top three, then the Warriors will receive the Timberwolves' unprotected first-rounder in 2022.”

Analysts believe that the Warriors are going to insert their no.2 pick this year into a trade package to acquire a veteran player or maybe even a big star. They are very capable of attracting a big star, as seen in their acquisition of Kevin Durant before.

The Dubs are expected to return back to contention with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green all healthy again. This latest rumor only means that the Warriors are looking to retain and extend their dominance for several more years.
