Before Alex Caruso returned to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors tried to recruit him to the Bay Area.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Caruso received significant interest from the Warriors. However, the feisty point guard decided to re-join the Purple and Gold to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The Warriors lost Quinn Cook to the Lakers, so it's understandable that they are looking for a backup point guard for superstar Stephen Curry. The Dubs also need retooling after losing Kevin Durant, Jordan Bell, Andre Iguodala and DeMarcus Cousins.

Caruso would have served as a great option behind Curry or D'Angelo Russell, considering that he averaged 9.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 25 games for the Lakers last season.

The 25-year-old point guard went undrafted back in 2016 and spent most of his first few years in the NBA playing in the G-League. However, he started to show potential over the past couple of seasons, and people started to notice.

Caruso didn't get much playing time in 2018-19, but when his number was called, he showed what he can do. He's a decent playmaker and 3-point shooter and can also be an above average defender. He's not that strong so when taller, heavier guards post him up, that's where he starts to struggle. If he can work on adding some weight next season, he will definitely be a solid backup for the Lakers.

The Lakers continue to build an intriguing roster after missing out on Kawhi Leonard. They still have five spots left to fill and around $10 million in cap space to spend. Finding quality players in what is now a weak free agency market will be quite a work for LA.
