RUMOR: Warriors have explored Damian Lillard trade
Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has seen his name involved in numerous trade rumors over the last couple of months. While he has made it clear he wants to stay put, it doesn’t mean teams aren’t exploring the idea of putting together a package for the superstar. Enter, the Golden State Warriors. According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, the Dubs have already had discussions about the possibility:
“Would the Warriors get involved? Yes. They’d make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I’m sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland.”
“Their theoretical offer would be competitive. If the Blazers decided to trade Lillard, a complete rebuild seems like the wisest path and there aren’t many better rebuilding trade packages dangling out there right now than James Wiseman, the seventh and 14th pick in the upcoming draft, plus more future firsts, attached to Andrew Wiggins as salary match filler.”
Could you imagine a Warriors lineup with Dame, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green? That would undoubtedly a title contender. However, Golden State would have to give up a lot in order to even get Lillard. Wiseman profiles as their big man of the future, while losing two first-round picks would also hurt.
The next question that comes for the Warriors is how Dame could fit alongside Steph. Offensively, they’d be electric, but defense would be a huge worry.
It’s just discussions at this point, but just knowing that the Warriors are even open to this is wild. Dame back home to the Bay Area playing for the Dubs. It’s not entirely impossible after all.
