Kevin Durant could leave the Golden State Warriors this summer to join the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers or any other team that has enough cap space to sign him. According to Steve Popper of NewsDay, one of the main reasons why KD will leave the Dubs is because of his dissatisfaction with head coach Steve Kerr and his role with the team.
“One front office executive said that Durant has been unhappy with the prodding from Steve Kerr and the feeling that he never can be — no matter how great he performs and how many individual honors he compiles — the centerpiece of a team that holds Steph Curry in the hearts of the franchise.”
Since joining the Warriors back in 2016, Durant has led the team to two championships. He's clearly the best player in Golden State, but the narrative of his move there will never change, which is why he never gets the same love and respect that Stephen Curry has.
If these rumors are true, then a fresh start with the Knicks will definitely be his best option. Durant has been rumored to be moving to New York since the beginning of this season. There were even speculations that he already had a ‘handshake deal‘ with the team's representatives.
But unless the dotted line is signed, the possibility of Durant staying with the Warriors is still not out of the window. If he decides to stay with Golden State, they will remain as championship contenders, regardless of the outcome of their current playoff run.
