Kevin Durant is fresh off signing his third consecutive one-and-one deal with the Golden State Warriors, giving himself the utmost flexibility to change his mind at a moment's notice and chase glory elsewhere.

The perennial scorer has a good chance to wind up with his third straight Larry O'Brien trophy by the end of this upcoming season and if so, could be looking to a different destination to continue his legacy.

According to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, rumors of Durant considering the Lakers hold no weight — confirming Durant will be looking to eclipse LeBron James, instead of joining along for the ride.

“I think next summer, we are going to see a Kevin Durant free-agency tour. I think we’ll see teams recruit him, maybe not the exact same way they did a few years ago, but in that kind of way,” said Mannix as a guest in Jeff Goodman's The Good N' Plenty podcast. “And if you start looking at potential teams, I know people like to connect Kevin Durant to Los Angeles, but I’m of the belief that if he gets his third championship, he’s not going to want to play alongside LeBron James, Kevin Durant’s gonna wanna be the player who eclipses LeBron James. You don’t wanna go and play with somebody and help him win championships if you’re on Durant level. You wanna be… THE guy. I think that’s gonna keep him out of L.A.”

Asked about a potential homecoming, Mannix quickly turned down any hope for his hometown Washington Wizards, who previously tried to recruit him during his only visit in the 2015-16 season.

“He’s not gonna go to Washington,” said Mannix. “He doesn’t wanna play at home. That’s been a long-standing thing with him… There would have to be a radical change [for Durant to consider it].”

The two most likely destinations remain his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the New York Knicks, as they undergo a clean rebuild under a new front office. Durant's manager Rich Kleiman has deep ties to New York, which could also offer ample opportunity for his post-basketball career as a tech investor.
