The Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks have talked about a D'Angelo Russell trade, with the Dubs reportedly asking for big man Mitchell Robinson and unprotected first round picks for the one-time All-Star, according to Brandon ‘Scoop B' Robinson of Heavy.

The Knicks are seeking a point guard under team control for next season. Russell signed a four-year deal with the Warriors this past offseason as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets involving Kevin Durant.

In 32 games for the Warriors this 2019-20, Russell is averaging 23.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists. The All-Star guard is also shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.0 percent from the free-throw line.

It makes sense that the Warriors want Robinson from the Knicks. Golden State needs a center after trading Willie Cauley-Stein to the Dallas Mavericks. Moreover, head coach Steve Kerr said last week that the Dubs will be looking to acquire a big man either at the trade deadline or in the summer during free agency.

Both the Knicks and Warriors are going to miss the playoffs this season. Russell played two seasons with the Nets and enjoyed living in New York, so odds are he won't mind getting traded to the Knickerbockers even though they have been a walking disaster for years under owner James Dolan.
