Before he was an All-NBA forward, 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time NBA Champion with the Golden State, Draymond Green was a Michigan State Spartan.

Green spent four years in East Lansing from 2009-2012 where he helped the Spartans reach the NCAA Final Four as a freshman and sophomore.

Before he enrolled at Michigan State, Green was an undersized, overweight unranked prospect from Saginaw Michigan. With Michigan State being a top program at the time, Green's chance at playing time seemed slim.

However, in his senior season in East Lansing, Green averaged 16.2 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists and earned consensus first team All-American honors.

Despite being a star in college, Green — who stood 6-foot-6 as a big man — wouldn't be drafted until the second round of the 2012 NBA Draft.

However, since he entered the league, Green has proven himself as an impact player and was an integral part of the Warriors' three recent championships.

In his NBA career, the three-time All-Star has averaged 9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and over a steal and a block per game.

During his Michigan State jersey retirement, Green would give a shoutout to the Warriors in his speech.

“To my Warriors family. Joe Lacob, Coach Kerr, Bob [Myers], D’Angelo Russell. Someone got Klay out the house. I don’t know that happened,” Green said.
Although the Warriors currently sit at a league-worst 4-18 on the season, injuries to stars Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are likely to blame. Nonetheless, Green has still impressed with his all-around game and hustle
Green's No. 23 jersey has joined the jerseys of former Spartans Magic Johnson, Scott Skiles, Mateen Cleaves, Steve Smith, Johnny Green, Shawn Respert, Jay Vincent, Greg Kelser and Morris Peterson, as well as former head coach Jud Heathcote.
