Jordan Bell and Kevon Looney used to be Pac-12 rivals with the former a product of the Oregon Ducks program and the latter an alumnus of UCLA Bruins basketball. These days, however, they seem to be the best of friends. The two obviously have a solid bond, which anyone could easily tell based on the seemingly genuine reaction of Bell when he was informed by Anthony Slater of The Athletic in front of reporters Tuesday that Kevon Looney has agreed to stay for one more year with the Golden State Warriors.

According to HoopsRumors, the veteran minimum for a player like Looney, who has played three seasons in the NBA is set at $1.512 million. It’s not much money, but the 6-foot-9 forward decided to ride out another year with the defending champions. Last season, Looney put up only 4.0 points per game to go with averages of 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game.

Looney and Bell are fixtures on the Warriors’ bench, as both could not possibly enjoy plenty of minutes in a team brimming with All-Stars. That should continue to be the case for the two, but at least they are very much likely to win another ring with DeMarcus Cousins arriving in the Bay Area to give Golden State the definitive death lineup of the NBA.

Cousins, however, is not expected to be ready for the start of the 2018-19 season, as he continues to recuperate from an Achilles injury. With JaVale McGee gone plus Zaza Pachulia and David West unlikely to be retained, Looney and Bell have a chance of filling in bigger roles on the team.
