Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson is known throughout the league for his prowess beyond the 3-point line. However, he still manages to flash his vertical from time to time.

Needless to say, Saturday night against the San Antonio Spurs was one of those instances. Both teams had been battling back and forth until Thompson managed to provide a spark with a monster dunk over small forward Davis Bertans in the third quarter, via Bleacher Report:

Thompson did not go too much into detail regarding the dunk after the game, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic:

“Well, I caught the ball and had a good pace so I just went up and flushed it and it felt very good.”

As evidenced by the Warriors' reaction on the bench, such high-flying antics are uncommon for Thompson. However, the sharpshooter showed no hesitation with what he was going to do on that fast break. Bertans wisely made the decision to get out of the way before bringing any further damage to himself.

More importantly, the highlight play was just what Thompson and the Warriors needed to help build their lead en route to a 122-105 victory over the Spurs. It also helped fuel a monstrous second half for the four-time All-Star as he finished with 25 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting. Not to be outdone by his thunderous dunk, he also shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Although the Warriors managed to put a stamp on their victory over a formidable San Antonio team, the score was a lot closer considering how massively undermanned their opponents were. That said, the margin of victory should have been much larger with the Warriors at full strength going into the contest.

It goes without saying that the team cannot rely on highlight dunks from Thompson in order to kick things into gear every night.
