Klay Thompson's offseason trips to China have become a staple of the NBA offseason, but this is a new twist. Usually, Thompson's trips overseas are anything but serious. Even if Klay is missing dunks and embarrassing himself, at the end of the day, it's all smiles.
Anyone who's ever played basketball knows how dangerous undercutting someone on a drive to the basket can be. That is one of the easiest ways to suffer a serious and completely unnecessary injury. During his most recent trip to China, Klay Thompson witnessed a friend get undercut during a pickup game.
In a video posted by TMZ Sports, Thompson is visibly upset at what he and his crew perceived to be a dirty play.
The video clearly shows that Thompson's friend was completely undercut by the defender and an awkward fall from that position could lead to serious injury. It's only natural that emotions run high after a dirty play like that.
This was a much different story. After Klay's friend was knocked to the ground the game took a serious turn. Thompson can be seen storming onto the court to defend his friend. Thompson would go on to exchange vulgarities with the offender and continually call out the dirty play.
But Klay's reaction is not unnecessary or over the top. The play was clearly a dirty move and Thompson and his crew have every right to take exception to it. This wasn't an NBA playoff game in the 90s. This was a pickup game in China that took a physical turn.
