The Golden State Warriors lost the chance of burying the New Orleans Pelicans under a 3-0 series lead, as they suffered their first defeat of the second round on Friday, 119-100.

There are a number of reasons why the Warriors succumbed to the Pelicans, but it definitely does not include the fact that JaVale McGee scored just two points in nine minutes on the floor. With fewer than 10 minutes spent on the court, McGee probably had burned more calories in pulling off this hilarious handshake with teammate and two-time league MVP Stephen Curry prior to the contest.

We don’t have an idea what exactly was the inspiration behind that routine, but it’s certainly something we have not seen before.

As for the game, the Warriors’ offense was simply uncharacteristic of them in Game 3. They shot 38.0 percent from the field. It was only the second time this postseason in which the Warriors shot poorer than 40 percent in a game. The other time was when they had a 37.8 field goal percentage in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs back in the first round.

On the flip side, Golden State’s defense also submarined the team’s chances of winning this game. New Orleans went 50 percent from the field, as the Pelicans made too many easy baskets in the shaded area, outscoring the Warriors in the paint by 18 points.

The Warriors eye a bounce-back performance this Sunday at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
