Washington Football Team will have its ideal quarterback under center as Alex Smith is expected to start in the all-important game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17 of the season, per NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport.

The veteran recently nursed a calf injury that forced him to remain on the sidelines in the team's last two games. With former quarterback Dwayne Haskins starting against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15, the team eventually failed to pull off an upset victory and succumbed to a narrow 20-15 defeat.

Haskins started anew in their following game against the Carolina Panthers where he found himself struggling in the pocket once again. Washington ran out of time to pull off a late-game comeback in the final frame against the Panthers and was ultimately dealt with a 20-13 loss.

Even with a two-game losing skid, the team still managed to hold onto the top spot of the NFC East with a 6-9 record. The Dallas Cowboys are closely trailing behind in second place with an identical tally while the New York Giants are still in the hunt for a playoff spot with a 5-10 record for the third seed in the NFC East.

A pivotal win against division rival Eagles in Week 17 will lead the Washington Football Team to clinch the divisional title and secure their spot in the postseason for the first time since 2015. Hopefully, Alex Smith will be ready and can perform at his best on Sunday in a bid to help his team make history in their final game of the regular season.
