The Washington Football Team is slated to take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, in what has been pitted as a matchup between the top two picks in the 2020 NFL Draft. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Washington defensive end Chase Young came first and second, respectively, and for his part, D.C. coach Joe Burrow provided some interesting (and rather obvious) insight about these tow young stars.

According to Burrow, Washington would have absolutely taken Burrow at the second spot if Cincinnati opted to go with Young as the first overall pick:

“We feel like championships are won by playing good defense. We felt pretty strongly about [Young]. The only other option we felt was a viable one for us was Burrow and obviously he was taken by Cincinnati,” Rivera said, via SI.com (h/t Michael David Smith of NBC Sports). “We think Joe is the full package. We really do. We think Chase is the full package. Depending on what Cincinnati did, that’s what we were going to do. The opposite. We didn’t think we would lose out either way. We really didn’t. We think both players are going to be great players and have great careers and we’re fired up that we have Chase.”

It wouldn't have been a tough decision for Washington, really. Passing on Burrow as the No. 2 pick would have been a huge mistake for D.C., and one that could have haunted them for years to come.

It is interesting to note, however, that Rivera's statement here appears to be a bit of a dig at current Washington Football quarterback Dwayne Haskins. Is this an indication of Rivera's lack of confidence in the young QB, who himself was Washington's first-round pick last year? The fact that Rivera decided to send Haskins to the bench following a sluggish start to the campaign could serve as further testament to this notion.
