The Washington Football Team's statement victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday came with a significant loss. Star defensive end Chase Young left the game after going down in the first half with a knee injury and did not return.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Washington head coach Ron Rivera revealed Young suffered a torn ACL. The injury will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season. Young sustained the injury after making contact with Bucs' offensive lineman Donovan Smith. Young's knee buckled and he went to the ground in pain. Ultimately, he declined to use the medical cart and limped off the field with the support of two team staffers.

The 2020 No. 2 overall pick started all nine games for the Football Team this year. He had recorded 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four QB hits, and three tackles for loss this season. His absence will surely be felt by a Washington defense that has surrendered an average of 27.3 points per game, fifth-worst in the league.

It will be near impossible to replace the production Young brings to the defense, especially considering the team has already lost fellow linemen Jalen Jelks and Montez Sweat. Rookie Shaka Toney and second-year DE Casey Toohill will likely see more snaps in Young's absence.

The Football Team, 3-6, are currently tied with the New York Giants for last place in the NFC East Division. A win over the reigning Super Bowl champs is a positive, but the loss of Young undoubtedly overshadows that.

Ron Rivera and Co.'s next challenge comes in Week 11 against the Panthers. Carolina is coming off a 34-10 beatdown of the Cardinals and could prove to be a difficult test for the Football Team's injury-depleted defense.
