Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera's battle with cancer was well-documented throughout the course of the 2020 season. It appears Rivera beat the disease.

Rivera's daughter, Courtney, revealed on Twitter Thursday her father has been deemed cancer-free.

This is tremendous news for “Riverboat Ron,” who first learned he had lymph node cancer in late-August.

The Washington Football Team boss never once considered quitting, though there were naturally some bumps in the road.

The players in Washington rallied around Rivera, overcoming a 2-7 start to go 5-2 over the final seven games of the year. Washington captured the NFC East, even pushing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round.

Linebacker Thomas Davis Sr. said the team drew inspiration from the head coach:

“Seeing everything he has endured and overcome since the start of the season, seeing his football schemes completely turn it around from being 2-7 to the position we’re in to host a playoff game is nothing short of a miracle,” Davis told USA TODAY Sports. “Coach Rivera, he’s a guy that’s a little different. Former player, real tough. … He’s a guy that survives and perseveres through it all.”

Rivera in turn was inspired by the support he received from players and staff alike. Now cancer-free, he can turn his focus back to football.

The Washington Football Team is in a decent position to make a run at a number of quarterbacks this offseason if it so chooses. The Football Team also enters the offseason with the fifth-most cap space in football, per Over The Cap.

Rivera's team has the chance to make noise again in 2021. First and foremost, however, the organization will be overjoyed to learn he has a clean bill of health.
