Ryan Fitzpatrick is not going to see any more action with the Washington Football Team this season, and that's been unofficially sealed by this report by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Sources: Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his hip, a measure that will help him heal. The procedure makes it official — Fitz’s 2021 season is over. He played in just one game, then suffered a hip subluxation.

Fitzpatrick was the Football Team's starter in Week 1 but got injured right away in the team's 20-16 season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at home. With Fitz hurt, the Football Team turned to Taylor Heinicke, who's started in all of Washington's games ever since. Heinicke has done an admirable job as Washington's QB1. He is fully capitalizing on the opportunity he's been given. With him under center, Washington has gone undefeated in its last four games, giving the Football Team an outside shot of making the playoffs — or even winning the NFC East.

Going back to Fitzpatrick, he's probably unlikely to return to Washington for another run with the team in 2022. With Heinicke proving to be a capable starter, the Football Team might not offer the veteran quarterback another contract. Fitzpatrick, who just turned 39 in November, signed a one-year deal worth $3 million with Washington back in March.
