The Washington Football Team were handed a major blow in Week 1, with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick leaving the game early with a hip injury. However, he has planned to rehab instead of getting surgery. Ian Rapoport offered some clarity on the situation:
From NFL Now: After undergoing a battery of tests and seeking several expert opinions, Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will attempt to rehab his hip without surgery for now, sources say. He’s expected to miss about 8 weeks. Taylor Heinicke into November, at least. pic.twitter.com/jSxIbu71j6

Eight weeks looks to be the timetable for Fitzpatrick, with Taylor Heinicke set to take over the QB duties for the Washington Football Team. Fitzpatrick was hit hard on Sunday and landed awkwardly on his hip in the second quarter and didn’t return. While it’s definitely a huge blow for Washington, it could also be a little bit risky not getting the operation. Two months is quite a long time but if it doesn’t heal enough, Fitz may have to get the surgery anyway.
Heinicke was decent when he came into the game, completing 11 of 15 passing attempts for one touchdown. He has limited starting experience, but the Washington Football Team will be looking for him to step up and get the job done. Their next test will be the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football at home.
It’s definitely a hit to the quarterback corps for Ron Rivera, but if Heinicke plays well enough, the loss of Fitzpatrick won’t be felt as heavily. Only time will tell.
