Chase Young is well-known for his freakish athleticism, but it's another aspect of his game that has impressed his teammates on the Washington Football Team. Ahead of Washington's crucial matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Alex Smith explained what makes Young different than most rookies.

“It’s crazy unusual for a rookie to have the type of leadership that Chase has. Genuine leadership,” quarterback Alex Smith said, via Matt Howe of 247 Sports. “I think a lot of young guys, especially high [draft] picks, I think you feel pressure to do it some way or somehow. I think Chase is so comfortable in his own skin and being who he is. I think guys respect that, but it’s rare to have a guy that young step in and really affect his teammates as positively as he has.”

When Washington selected Young with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Ron Rivera knew he was getting an imposing edge defender. What Washington also got in Young was a player that is already acting as one of the leaders in the locker room, which is rare for a rookie.

In his first 14 games in the NFL, Young has racked up 6.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, 18 total pressures, and four forced fumbles. The Ohio State product is likely going to win the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year award for his efforts this season.

Heading into the final week of the season, the Washington Football Team can clinch the NFC East and a playoff berth with a win over the Eagles. There's no doubt that Young will likely have an emotional speech planned for the team before they take the field on Sunday Night Football.
