The Washington Football Team had been crushed with COVID-19 positive cases over the last week. That prompted the NFL to postpone Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles to Tuesday night. The hope for Washington was that they would get some of their missing players to clear COVID protocols in time for the game, including starting quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

According to NFL Network reported Tom Pelissero, Heinicke did not pass protocols and has been ruled out for Tuesday night's game.

Not only did Heinicke not pass protocols, but back up quarterback Kyle Allen also did not pass the COVID protocols. He has been ruled out as well. Therefore, the Washington Football Team turns to Garrett Gilbert as their starting quarterback.

Gilbert has not had much playing time in the NFL. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Gilbert made his first career start last year for the Dallas Cowboys. He played competently well, finishing 21 for 38 for 243 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. However, the Cowboys lost the game to the Steelers.

Gilbert has only attempted three other passes during his pro career.

This is a crucial game for both the Eagles and the Washington Football Team. The teams are tied at 6-7, a half game behind the Minnesota Vikings for the final wild card spot in the NFC.

Washington will also be without a handful of assistant coaches Tuesday night. They placed All-Pro offensive guard Brandon Scherff on the COVID-19 reserve list Monday, but activated pass-rusher Montez Sweat and defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis.
