The Washington Redskins went 3-13 in 2019. That was the second worst record in the NFL, barely ahead of the 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals.

They definitely have a lot of positives to build upon. Some stars are already in place, and there is a lot of young talent on the team that could blossom in upcoming years.

However, that 3-13 record tells an obvious story. The Redskins need to make some moves. They need to figure some things out, and that could happen in free agency.

Who should they target though? Here are three positions of needs the Redskins need to target in free agency.

Tight End

Jordan Reed, Redskins

This time last year, this was a concern, but nothing massive. At least not nearly as massive of a problem as the wide receiver group.

A first-rate rookie class changed that though. Yes, Washington could probably still use a wide receiver, but it’s not a pressing need anymore. Terry McLaurin is a star, Kelvin Harmon looks like a mammoth possession receiver with a ton of deep threat abilities, and Steven Sims Jr. went from undrafted and unknown to a valuable asset in the slot.

Meanwhile, the tight ends saw Jordan Reed miss the entire year with a concussion and Vernon Davis miss most of the year with injuries as well.

Davis isn’t getting any younger, and Reed struggles to stay on the field. At this point, retirement is more likely than seeing him suit up for a couple games. Hopefully, he can get healthy and back on track.

The Redskins can’t take that chance though. They need someone who they can rely on to be healthy. Having the same situation they had this year, with third-stringer Jeremy Sprinkle and a bunch of guys off the street playing the position, anymore.

Washington could look into the draft, but should also get a veteran from free agency to be safe.

Offensive Line

trent williams

This would have been an issue, even without the Trent Williams situation. That just made things 100-times worse though.

Without Williams, the Redskins offensive line was bad. With Williams, they would be good, still needing improvements though.

Washington needs a center. They also desperately need depth. Ereck Flowers was fantastic at guard and they should consider locking him up long-term honestly.

Brandon Scherff was solid, but did not look like his usual dominant self. He also had injury problems.

Then there’s Morgan Moses. He’ll dominate one play, but have a boneheaded mistake the next. He also has injury problems, but is the type of guy you want on your team and in the locker room. So he should stay, but he also puts a spotlight on how important depth is.

The Redskins need to go out and find multiple offensive linemen in free agency. For depth purposes if nothing else. They were caught too many times last year throwing out players that should not be protecting a first-round rookie quarterback.

Secondary

Redskins, Josh Norman
CP

This one is simple. Did you see Josh Norman last year? You could argue that the Redskins were not playing him properly. However, Norman struggled, as did most of the secondary.

Quinton Dunbar was a star and Landon Collins was great. A lot of fans like to act like Collins was a disappointment, but he was one of the few players on defense that really kept things together somewhat.

Outside of that though, the secondary has some serious issues. Fabian Moreau and Jimmy Moreland could blossom, but that’s taking a risk. Bringing in one or two talented veterans could make a massive difference for the Redskins moving forward.
