The Washington Redskins have had an exciting and productive offseason. That included getting some veterans to bolster the roster, and rookies who could lead to on-field improvements. Meanwhile, a lot of their young talent has been given a chance to grow and improve.

But it’s not a perfect team; far from it. Washington certainly has quite a few holes on the roster at the moment. What is the biggest roster need for the Redskins heading into the 2020 season? Let’s take a look and try to figure that out.

Washington needs help at a few positions, that’s the biggest problem.

Offensively, they are set at quarterback and running back. The running back position has a perfect mixture of veterans and youngsters, as well as power, speed, blocking and catching capabilities. Meanwhile, Dwayne Haskins looks much improved and could be a franchise quarterback.

However, tight end is a major question mark. Wide receiver has a lot of promise, but might need some immediate veteran help. And of course, the offensive line has serious questions as well.

Defensively, the front seven looks spectacular. The defensive line is absolutely frightening and the linebacker corps more than holds up compared to others around the league. This could be one of the best units in all of football.

The secondary, however, may be another story. Landon Collins and Kendall Fuller are great defensive backs. Collins is a one-man party at safety, however. They have a few potential answers next to him, but nothing that currently stands out. Meanwhile, Fuller is now being thrust into the role of the team’s top cornerback, and he does not have any real backup.

So while Washington has some great things going for it, there are quite a few notable holes on the roster. What is the most pressing for the Redskins?

Admittedly, you could argue that the offensive side of the ball is more important because those positions are so vital to the growth of Haskins. Giving him weapons makes a big difference. And protecting him and keeping him healthy is obviously needed.

However, Washington isn’t in a terrible situation at any of its non-quarterback positions on offense. The Redskins have a good young core at wide receiver and some intriguing pieces at tight end. Meanwhile, the offensive line is not terrible. They have possible solutions on the roster already for the areas on the line they are weakest.

That leaves safety and cornerback. Like the offensive line, safety has a number of potential answers that should play out once training camp begins.

At cornerback, Fabian Moreau has potential and showed growth last season. Jimmy Moreland is interesting as well, as is Greg Stroman. However, both of them have not shown yet that they can be given a big role.

That leaves Ronald Darby and Aaron Colvin as the Redskins’ veterans. Both have had success in the past, but are coming off bad years — for Colvin, it’s been more than just one. While both have shown in the past that they can be great cornerbacks. But right now, the Redskins might need to have them play bigger roles on defense and that does not seem like the smart move.

There are a few needs on the Washington roster. But another bookend cornerback to take some pressure off of Fuller has to be at the top of their list.
