Real reason Warriors' trade for OG Anunoby fell apart

The Warriors didn’t make a league-altering splash the trade deadline, unlike other top contenders.

They made marginal moves, bringing back Gary Payton II from the Blazers, while shipping away James Wiseman to the Pistons.

But just because the Warriors couldn’t match the Suns, Mavs and Lakers at the deadline, doesn’t mean they didn’t try.

The Dubs reportedly went after OG Anunoby before the deadline, joining several teams hoping to acquire the valuable two-way forward.

But a deal never materialized because the Warriors reportedly balked at the Raptors’ sky-high asking price.

The reported trade package Toronto was seeking for Anunoby comprised of Jonathan Kuminga, other players and multiple picks.

Golden State’s interest in acquiring Anunoby raised eyebrows league-wide when it was reported.

The prevailing assumption was that the Dubs lacked the assets needed to acquire the most-sought after role player on the market.

Even if the Dubs were comfortable moving Kuminga, they wouldn’t have been able to offer the additional draft compensation.

Toronto’s insistence on getting a star-level haul in a potential trade ultimately led to no OG Anunoby deal going through.
