After a narrow defeat in Week 1 to the Los Angeles Chargers, the Washington Football Team enters Week 2 with a good amount of uncertainty.

Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured in the season opener and is on the shelf indefinitely for the Washington Football Team. Ron Rivera and Co. will be handing the keys over to Taylor Heinicke, who started the lone playoff game for the WFT last year.

Given all the circumstances surrounding the Washington Football Team, their matchup on Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants will go a long way in determining the fate of this team this year.

The Giants sputtered out of the gates in their season opening loss to Teddy Bridgewater and the Denver Broncos. Saquon Barkley didn't do much, Daniel Jones was super average and Bridgewater picked apart the New York secondary at certain junctures.

Yes, it's a backup quarterback going for an extended stretch now for the Washington Football Team but this is a squad that had high expectations for this season after winning the NFC East a year ago (despite having a losing record).

With Fitzpatrick out, those postseason dreams may have taken a hit but it hasn't deterred the WFT team this week as numerous players have praised Heinicke's skillset that he will bring to the table.

If the Washington Football Team wins on Thursday night, they'll rest at 1-1 and be able to exhale for a moment. If they fall to the Giants and start 0-2, any thoughts of the postseason will be in serious trouble. Yes, it is only Week 2 and starting 0-2 wouldn't be a complete doom-and-gloom scenario for the WFT. But look at the schedule.

What lies ahead for the WFT in four out of their next five games are: the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. Three of those teams were three of the last four standing a year ago. Going to Buffalo and Green Bay with Heinicke as QB1 won't be easy. Hosting the Chiefs and Saints could be just as difficult.

This is a game on Thursday night that the Washington Football Team has to have to calm the chaos of losing their starting quarterback after just one game. The Giants provide a nice buffer in the schedule for the gauntlet that awaits.
