The contract dispute between Jamal Adams and the New York Jets seems to have reached a crossroads. The All-Pro safety has requested a trade and has given a short list of teams that he'd prefer to be traded to — including the Houston Texans.

Of course, whichever team decides to make a play for Adams, they will need to understand that he wants a lucrative extension in the near future. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Adams could be asking for in excess of $20 million annually.

On the other hand, it's been stated that there are a select few teams that he'd be content joining while waiting for an extension. Regardless of the situation involving his contract, there should still be a handful of teams that express interest in acquiring Adams via trade.

One of the teams that made the list of preferred landing spots for Adams was the Texans. There's no doubt that Adams being a Texas native plays a large part in him being interested in heading to Houston., as this past season, Adams was reportedly open to joining the Dallas Cowboys due to his desire to play near his hometown.

Of course, Houston made noise in the news cycle earlier this offseason when they traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. For the most part, the trade involving Hopkins caused fans to scratch their heads — and deservedly so.

Besides the Hopkins trade, Houston has shown they aren't afraid to make moves they believe can help the team long term. In the past two years, Houston has made a few trades that are have been player-for-player. With that in mind, what could the Jets get from the Texans if Bill O'Brien is willing to do business for Adams?

What a trade for Adams could look like for the Texans

Before the 2019 season, the Texans completed a trade for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Kenny Stills. In the trade with the Miami Dolphins, Houston sent their 2020 and 2021 first-round picks, along with their 2021 second-round pick.

Provided that, the Texans are limited in terms of first-round picks they can offer in a trade for Adams. Plus, Houston needs to lock up quarterback Deshaun Watson to a lucrative extension in the next year or two. Taking that into consideration, it's highly unlikely the Texans are able to add the versatile safety via trade.

Nevertheless, if they coughed up any more first-round picks that could make it harder on O'Brien to build a well-rounded roster. However, if the trade involving Hopkins showed us anything, it's that O'Brien won't say no to an offer he views as beneficial to the franchise. Whether the trade actually makes sense is an entirely different conversation.

Despite the team's lack of valuable draft capital, what could the Texans offer for Adams? Seeing that they don't have many first-round picks remaining, they'll undoubtedly have to include a player (or two).

Even with zero first-round picks in 2021, the Texans will still have to surrender a first-round pick to land Adams. So Houston would likely have to send their 2022 first-round pick to the Jets.

In addition to the first-round selection, the Texans could offer Kenny Stills. Stills is entering the final year of his current contract. While he is a free agent in 2021, Stills would give New York a much-needed offensive weapon for Sam Darnold.

On the other hand, the Jets could also use a cornerback from the Texans. Given that, either Vernon Hargreaves or Lonnie Johnson Jr. could also be involved in a trade for Adams.

Lastly, on top of a first-round pick, Stills and one of Houston's cornerbacks, New York could likely garner a third-round pick as well. At the same time, the Jets could send an early-to-mid round pick in 2021 to the Texans.

Houston's hypothetical trade offer for Adams:

Texans receive: Jamal Adams, 2021 fifth-round pick

Jets receive 2022 first-round pick, 2022 third-round pick, Kenny Stills, Vernon Hargreaves
