Ever since Disney acquired both Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm, geeks and nerds like myself have been waiting on a Marvel x Star Wars crossover. Apparently, we almost got that in Marvel's What if…? according to the show's head writer AC Bradley.

During an interview with Collider, Bradley and What if…? director Bryan Andrews spoke about how they tried to bring the epic franchises together. Bradley said, “I was kinda notorious for trying to get a Star Wars character involved. We did try at one point but it's kind of like ‘Play with the sandbox that you were given. We gave you the entire MCU, run with that.'” She then went on to say, “I was like, okay, but still, Luke Skywalker would be an amazing Avenger.”

So far, there aren't any plans to bring the force and lightsabers into the MCU. However, Andrews didn't rule out the possibility of a crossover happening in the future. He said, “Who knows, if fans watch it and love it and clamour enough, in future episodes, who knows what can happen? Who knows? What if, right?”

“There was a bunch of ideas that were around and, who knows, maybe at some point we'll get lucky and get to go further. But first order of business was like, let's open up the multiverse off the films that we know, and then hopefully as things progress things can get wilder and wilder and more crazy.”

Bradley then joked, “In Season 20, Baby Groot and Baby Yoda can have a play date.”

Here's hoping that the future will be kind to us nerds and geeks. Maybe one day we'll even see Chewbacca and Groot have a singing contest. No? Okay.

Marvel's What if…? is set to release exclusively on Disney+ on August 11, 2021.
