The Washington Redskins started their rebuild early this offseason with a major splash in free agency, acquiring safety Landon Collins. Moving over from the New York Giants, he signed a six-year, $84-million contract with Washington.

Due to that, many are expecting monster things from the safety. Others however feel like he is overpaid and won't live up to the contract.

It's important to remember that there could be a few growing pains in year one as everyone gets acclimated. However, he's a big-money free agent and should be held accountable if he doesn't live up to the hype at the same time.

With that in mind, what exactly should be expected of Landon Collins in 2019 for the Washington Redskins?

Landon Collins, Giants

The Washington Redskins have been looking for their game-changer in the secondary for quite some time now. It's led to a lot of different faces in the safety position trying to take over.

Landon Collins is here to change that. He's the stopper – the safety that can come in and actually be the on-and-off field leader while putting up big numbers.

Again it's important to remember this is his first year, so there might be a few issues. Maybe Collins confuses a zone or set at some point, or forgets to cover a man. There's blown coverage every year though – you have to learn to accept that even the best players will make a mistake every once in a while.

With that in mind, Collins has been a stud up to this point in his career. The safety had his first season with fewer than 100 tackles in 2018, and that was because he only played 12 games (and still finished with 96).

He's a threat in the passing game, great at getting to the ball to break up passes or even create turnovers. Collins can also disrupt the quarterback though and help create plays for other defensive backs.

Not only is he strong when it comes to defending the pass, but Collins is elite at run stopping. He's a sure tackler – which is something you really need from a safety. When he's the last line of defense you're not too worried the ball carrier is going to blow by him. At the same time, he can run up and plug a hole and help stop the ball carrier from even getting to the line of scrimmage.

Realistically, you should expect a lot from Landon Collins in 2019 – and he probably wouldn't want it any other way.

Collins could definitely emerge as the leader of the secondary, and one of the leaders of the defense and entire team. While doing that, he'll more-than-likely be one of the top tacklers on the Washington defense, as well as at his position across the entire NFL.

Pass deflections will be there, as will some game-changing plays.

The most important thing that you can except from Landon Collins in 2019, is winning play. Collins has the talent to anchor a defense and help a team win. The Washington Redskins have a lot of talent around him on the defensive end and are up-and-coming on offense.

He'll help the young players around him grow and help the team to succeed.

Landon Collins will be part of the turnaround that the Washington Redskins will begin in 2019 – and he'll put up numbers while doing so.
